How-to-celebrate-Memorial-Day-2014Most of us think of Memorial Day as the first day of Summer, while the real meaning and tradition of why we celebrate this holiday can get side tracked….

In 1868, it was originally observed as “Decoration Day”.  The graves at Arlington National Cemetery were decorated with flowers in memory of the all the heroic soldiers barried there. Today volunteer groups continue this tradition by decorating the graves of fallen soldiers across national cemeterys throughout the U.S.

National Moment of Remembrance

An initiative to re-educate and remind America of the original purpose of Memorial Day was taken in December of 2000 with the passing of the “National Moment of Rememberance Act“.  This resolution asks us to pause together in a united moment of silence to honor the men and women who have given their lives in service to our nation.

I want to encourage everyone to participate in the National Moment of Remembrance at 3:00 pm this Monday!  Set a reminder on your phone and grab whoever is around you.  Close your eyes, pause, and give thanks for those who have fought for our freedom.  Send that beautiful energy out into the world that it may ripple out as a prayer for peace and happiness for all beings everywhere.

Hope to see you Monday at 9:30am where we can reflect together on all our blessings of freedom and liberty.
