What to Know

Yoga Etiquette/Tips for Getting Started

1. Please do your best to arrive 10 minutes prior to class timeGive yourself time to settle in to the space and gather your strap, blocks and bolster.  The breathing excercises prepare us for class. Everyone is late from time to time, so if you are late–just enter the room as quietly as possible without disturbing the meditation.

2. Please turn cell phones OFF, or to silent position.

3. Leaving Early:  If you must leave before the class is over, gently make your way out before the beginning of savasana (our final relaxation).  Just take an early savasana on your own a few minutes before leaving, which will let me know of your early exit.

4. Please bring a mat.  I always have extra mats available if you are new, or for your guests who may visiting us or perhaps if you forget yours.  Please remember to wipe down borrowed mats after each use with sanitizing wipes provided.

5. Hygiene:  Please do not wear perfume/cologne to yoga. Some people are allergic or just bothered by strong perfumes. And there is nothing worse than stinky feet when you are upside down and close to people’s feet… so please – be mindful of others.

6Courtesy – When waiting for class to begin, try not to engage in loud conversation.  Many students enjoy the quietness in these moments.

7.Nutrition –  It’s best to refrain from eating or drinking an hour or so before class. A light protein rich breakfast snack is recommended.  Drink lots of fluids the day and evening prior to practicing to ensure you are hydrated for class.

8. Clothing – Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move around freely without a lot of adjusting. Take off your shoes and wiggle your toes – we practice yoga barefeet.

Feel free to ask questions during class… this is your space to learn.

Yoga should be challenging, but not competitive.   Relax and have fun!
